About the

Braque du Bourbonnais

Club of

The Braque du Bourbonnais Club of America Mission Statement: "The purpose of this

organization is to develop and maintain the Braque du Bourbonnais as a field ready, family

oriented versatile pointing dog in North America as the breed was developed in its native

homeland of France. The objectives of the organization will be to establish a sound

breeding program based on adherence to the breed standard of the Federation

Cynologique Internationale for type, coat, conformation, elimination of physical defects,

and field use. A strong emphasis being placed on the dogs' hunting abilities; nose, pointing,

cooperation, temperament, and water work. The BdBCA strongly advocates the incorporation

of comprehensive hunt tests of versatility as the foundations for development and improvement of the Braque du Bourbonnais. Only of proven ability

should be used in breeding programs."

Since the first attempts of importing and breeding in the 1980's the Braque du Bourbonnais has gathered a

group of entheusists across the United States and in Canada, with a reputation of a loving

compassionate and reliable gun dog. In 2010 a group of Bourbonnais owners began working together to

form the basis of the North American Breed Club for the Braque du Bourbonnais. The BdBCA was

founded in 2011 with a primary propose to allow the Braque du Bourbonnais to compete in AKC                                                           Hunt and Agility test. To encourage and promote the selective breeding of the Braque du Bourbonnais as a                                                                true continental gun dog suited for the North America foot hunter.

The other objectives of the club is to spread knowledge of the Bourbonnais, which deserves much greater                                                      attention from clubs and hunters. To gather information on where the Bourbonnais has been, learn from the mistakes                                                   made in France, to advance the breed in the United States and in Canada. Educate owners and fanciers

of the breed. To create a environment for members to ask questions, exchange ideas on training, or other                                                         concerns theymay have, in a forum where all questions, concerns are welcome and answered.

To gather and document information on dogs within the United States, Litters produced and health and temperament issues reviled in NAVHDA, VHDF or AKC Hunt Test. Keeping it in a central location, easily accessible to owners or perspective owners~~

The Braque du Bourbonnais Club of America is the only National Club for the Bourbonnais to date, and is the "Liaison Club" to the American Kennel Club. In May, 2011 the Braque du Bourbonnais was accepted into AKC's Foundation Stock Service and in November, 2011 the Braque du Bourbonnais was approved to compete in AKC Performance Event effective January 1, 2012.
